‘Frustrated’: Journalist says £43m player could reluctantly stay at Manchester City now

Bernardo Silva could reluctantly end up staying at Manchester City for another season.

Over the past 12 months we’ve heard non-stop reports about how fed up the Portuguese star is in England and how he wants to leave City this summer, but for the second year in a row, he may not be granted his wish.

Indeed, according to Dean Jones, speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Silva may well have to stay at City.

Silva was widely expected to leave the Etihad this summer, but after the departure of Ilkay Gundogan and the impending departure of Riyad Mahrez, this situation has become a lot more complicated now.

Silva may have to stay

Jones shared what he knows about the £43m man.

“Bernardo Silva is the one that I am really really intrigued by because I don’t think that they can let him leave. I think Bernardo might end up being frustrated and begrudgingly staying at Man City for a second season in a row. Last season went pretty well and ended with a treble, but he wants to go,” Jones said.

Can’t afford to lose him

Pep Guardiola has never been one to keep players against their will, but the reality is that he can’t really afford to lose Silva at this moment in time.

There’s no like-for-like replacement for Silva in the squad at the moment, and, to be honest, there’s nobody on the transfer market either.

City want to build on their successes of last season, but after losing a few key players already, they’re in danger of taking a small backwards step.

We can only hope that City figure out a way for all parties to end up happy with this summer’s solution.
