Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed that signing Mateo Kovacic would make Manchester City stronger.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Citizens had opened talks with the midfielder’s representatives over a potential summer transfer move.

It has since been claimed that personal terms between the player and City have almost been agreed and direct contacts between the two clubs will take place to discuss a potential fee.

With the summer transfer window not even open yet, this highlights how keen the Premier League champions seemingly are about sealing a deal for the Chelsea player.

The subject of Kovacic’s potential move to the Etihad Stadium has quickly become the topic of conversation, with one pundit sharing their thoughts on it.

Agbonlahor says Kovacic will make City better

Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor had this to say about the Croatian’s potential switch from Chelsea to City.

He said: “I just don’t understand why you’d let him go. I really, really like him. He’s going to suit Manchester City so much and make them so much stronger.”

After spending a season on loan at the west London club, the 29-year-old joined Chelsea on a permanent deal worth a reported fee of £40m back in 2019.

Since then, the Croatia international has made 221 appearances for the Stamford Bridge outfit, finding the net six times and providing 15 assists.

During his time in England, the midfielder has won the Europa League and Champions League, in addition to winning three Champions League titles with his previous club Real Madrid.

While there’s no certainty that Kovacic would improve Pep Guardiola’s side as Agbonlahor suggested, it’s clear that someone with his top-level experience in the Premier League and in Europe would make him a very useful addition to City’s squad.
