It’s accepted by a lot of Manchester City fans that Sergio Aguero will likely be leaving the club this summer, but could he be followed out the door by Gabriel Jesus?
The Brazilian striker has seen a good amount of game time this term in the absence of his fellow South American.
But, again, he hasn’t been an absolute regular under Pep Guardiola, who has not shyed away from using the likes of Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and even Kevin De Bruyne and Bernando Silva through the middle.
It is believed that Erling Haaland is a target for City (The Telegraph), and in the past couple of days two more names have been linked with a switch to the Etihad.
Southampton star Danny Ings (Sky Sports) and Patson Saka of RB Salzburg (Salzburg Nachritzen) are also now said to be on the club’s radar.
There just seems to be a feel that City will finally be splashing the cash on a new out-and-out number nine this summer – something that has not been done since Jesus’ £27 million transfer (Sky Sports) back in January 2017.
That being said, an important couple of months potentially await now for Jesus.
Time to step up
Despite an impressive return of 80 goals and 33 assists in 183 games for City, many fans still feel as though he doesn’t quite have it in him to become the club’s undisputed number nine.
Undoubtedly he can be frustrating, but his work out of possession is extremely good.
But he does still lack that ruthless edge at times and one wonders if he needs to find that consistency before the season is out.
Links to Ings, Daka and Haaland have an ominous feel to them – surely at least one will join this summer, as City seek to keep their squad fresh, competitive and packed with quality.
