Gael Clichy has said that John Stones was the best player on the pitch as Manchester City beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final.
While Ilkay Gundogan well and truly starred with a brilliant brace on Saturday afternoon, the former City left-back replied to the £47.5 million (Guardian) man’s Instagram post.
According to Gael Clichy, John Stones was different gravy to the rest of his Manchester City teammates in their well-earned win against Manchester United.
Gael Clichy raves about John Stones as Manchester City beat Manchester United
Branded as ‘amazing’ by Fernandinho for how he has adapted to his newfound hybrid role at centre-back or right-back and in midfield, Stones has been a class act throughout the season, as he was unplayable against United as well.
Both in the middle of the park and in the centre of defence, the five-time Premier League winner was virtually perfect every single time his services were called upon.
So much so that Gael Clichy believed it was John Stones and not Ilkay Gundogan who was the standout for Manchester City as they beat Manchester United to wrap up a domestic double.

“You are cold, man. My Player of the Match”, he replied.
John Stones has a case for being the Man of the Match
Of course, Ilkay Gundogan should be classed as the best player on the pitch as even aside from his outrageous pair of strikes, his all-round display was excellent.
However, Gael Clichy has a point when saying that John Stones has a case as well, as he was imperious for Manchester City against Manchester United.
The Englishman arguably performed the most challenging role on the pitch and did so with absolute perfection.
The manner in which Stones dovetailed between centre-back and in midfield, whilst both dictating proceedings and being an absolute rock at the back was a sight to behold.
The two moments that sum John Stones’ magnificence up is his heroic block late into the game to deny Alejandro Garnacho’s shot, and before that, his exquisite turn to beat the turn and carry the box inside his box.
