Manchester City have become the dominating power in English football in recent seasons that the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool are trying to stop.
Okay, the Premier League is not the Bundesliga yet, but in each and every season, it is Manchester City who are the favourites to win the Premier League title.
Liverpool were the only team genuinely challenging Pep Guardiola’s side until last season when Arsenal emerged.
Both Arsenal and Liverpool are expected to give City a run for their money in the Premier League this season.
Gary Neville on Manchester City defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers
And, according to former Manchester United defender Gary Neville, the defeat for City to Wolverhampton Wanderers this past weekend will encourage Arsenal.
City, who won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup last season, went down 2-1 to Wolves away from home in the Premier League on Saturday.
Also on Saturday, Arsenal beat Bournemouth 4-0 away from home.
City are at the top of the Premier League table at the moment with 18 points from seven matches.
Arsenal are third with 17 points from seven games.
The Gunners will host City at the Emirates Stadium in North London in the Premier League this coming weekend.
Sky Sports pundit Neville said about City’s defeat to Wolves on his podcast, as transcribed by DAZN: “I think it’s good for the league.
“I know City fans won’t think so but the fact that they’ve given encouragement to other teams, I think it’s really important.
“Arsenal, I think, after feeling bad after the North London Derby last week will be buoyant this week and feeling, ‘Right, game on. City are fallible, they’ve got mistakes in them. They’re conceding goals, they’ve lost twice in a week’.
“City don’t normally do that.”
Arsenal should be wary of wounded Manchester City
It is not often that Manchester City lose two matches in a row.
City lost to Newcastle United in the EFL Cup last week and went down to Wolves this past weekend.
Arsenal will be encouraged by that.
But, I believe that the Gunners should actually be wary of a wounded City side.
Pep Guardiola is not a manager who just lets things slide.
The former Barcelona manager will be determined to get City back to winning ways.
City will face RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League in midweek.
I am backing the Citizens to pick up all three points from the match.
And, in my view, City will make sure that they do not lose the Premier League match to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
