Manchester City are set to sign Finley Gorman from Leeds United – and the treble winners are very excited.

That is according to Dan Moylan, Michael Normanton and Phil Hay on The Square Ball Podcast.

So, what was said about Manchester City and Finley Gorman? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Citizens agreed a seven-figure deal to sign the 15-year-old from Leeds United last week.

Now, further details have emerged regarding the move, including Manchester City’s thoughts on Gorman.

Those speaking on The Square Ball Podcast said: “It is going to happen. It needed to go through Premier League checks just to make sure these things are above board and compliant, because he is so young, at 15.

“Leeds think that this is a British transfer record for a player of his age. This could be worth £5m plus. He wants to go. He has made it clear that he wants to go.

“Leeds have long felt the pressure from City. City know there are a lot of good players who come through Leeds, and it’s worth keeping an eye on. Not the first, probably won’t be the last.”

“They (City) see him as sort of a generational talent. They see him as the best of the best in England in his position and at his age it’s hard not to get seduced, that they think a lot of me and this place is incredible, I can end up playing for City.”

Manchester City have a huge responsibility with Finley Gorman

Eyebrows are always raised when a Premier League giant spends millions on a very young footballer.

More often than not, the pressure and expectation proves too obstructive, and that superstar potential fizzles away.

Manchester City have already been guilty of disturbing a young talent’s development on several occasions, with Michael Brown and Jack Rodwell arguably the most famous examples.

Therefore, Manchester City must not neglect Gorman, and need to ensure his pathway into the first-team is crystal clear, with minimal risk of any stagnation in his development.

Hopefully, the England Under-15 international can fulfil his vast potential within the City Football Academy.
