Frank Lampard played with countless world-class footballers during his career but one Manchester City man left him ‘genuinely amazed’.

Lampard enjoyed an unexpected stint at City when he joined on loan from sister club New York City for the 2014/15 season. He made 38 appearances, scoring eight times.

The Chelsea legend had played alongside great strikers like Nicolas Anelka, Andriy Shevchenko and Didier Drogba at Stamford Bridge.

Yet, he considers Sergio Aguero as one of the best he has ever lined up with.

Frank Lampard wowed by Sergio Aguero

Speaking to Man City’s in-house media, Lampard said: “I played with one of the best strikers at Chelsea in Didier Drogba.

“Sergio is obviously a different style to Didier. But I was genuinely amazed by him.

“We would do one-on-ones in training where you’d run through on the keeper and it was just incredible to see his talent – sitting the keeper down, feigning to go one way and then doing a different kind of finish.

“He had a true goalscoring instinct and a very loveable approach to the game.

“Sergio came in every day, did his thing, smiled a lot, had a cheeky way about him.

“He scored a hat-trick against Bayern and four against Tottenham when I was there. He was a goalscoring machine and I loved playing with him.

“He goes in right at the top in and around Didier in terms of the best strikers I’ve played with for sure.”

Sergio Aguero vs Didier Drogba

Drogba has gone down as a Premier League all-time great and will forever be remembered for the way he spearheaded Chelsea for years.

The Ivorian enjoyed great success. He was crucial to four title triumphs and played a pivotal role in winning the club’s first Champions League trophy in 2012.

Yet, Aguero certainly surpasses him on the list of the best strikers to have played in England.

The Argentine is the highest-scoring foreign player in Premier League history, with his 184 strikes placing him 5th on the list overall.

Aguero was also a more complete player, especially after Pep Guardiola got his hands on him.

He was already an incredible finisher but under Guardiola’s guidance, he added so much more to his game. He became adapted to a complex system as he developed his pressing, positioning and build-up play.

Aguero added all that without losing his touch in front of goal and finished his career with five league titles. Though he never won Europe’s top prize.
