Manuel Akanji has now heaped praise on Manchester City No.9 Erling Haaland.

The 28-year-old spoke to ESPN about the Norwegian.

So, what did Manuel Akanji say about Erling Haaland? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Switzerland international knows the 23-year-old very well, having played alongside him at Borussia Dortmund as well as Manchester City, and there is clearly a lot of admiration from the defender’s side.

Speaking about Haaland, Akanji said: “He scores so many important goals for us. He’s a great player and I love him as a person as well. We spent a lot of time together at Dortmund, then he comes here and I join him as well!

“We’ve been getting along really well. You can also see in training he works really hard to get better every day. He never takes it easy. He’s a really important player for our team.”

Akanji and Haaland have shared a pitch on 122 occasions, winning 2.2 points per game while also combining for a single goal.

Manchester City pulled off a masterclass in recruitment with Akanji and Haaland

Manchester City obviously possess a wonderful recruitment team – spearheaded by Txiki Begiristain.

That was made crystal clear in the signings of Akanji and Haaland.

Remarkably, Manchester City managed to sign the versatile Swiss defender for just £15m from Borussia Dortmund.

The Citizens also signed Haaland for only £51.5m – to spend just £66.5m on two outstanding players, who are undoubtedly among the best in their position, was incredible business, to say the least.

Aside from their quality on the pitch, Akanji and the Norway international appear to have great chemistry off the field, which surely played a huge role in squad togetherness last season as Manchester City won the treble.

Hopefully, the pair can collect more silverware this season – having already lifted the UEFA Super Cup.
