Nedum Onuoha has praised Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden for the way he has developed his game this season.

The Englishman’s previous Premier League appearance saw him score two goals and deliver a star performance in City’s 3-1 win over Manchester United.

With the Blues set to take on Liverpool at Anfield tomorrow for their latest big test in the league, one pundit and former City player has highlighted the 23-year-old for some significant praise.

Speaking in a recent episode of Planet Premier League, Onuoha had this to say about Foden.

He said: “I think Guardiola said something last week about how well he’s doing but then also said how much he’s improved defensively as well. I think that is something that would matter for Pep I imagine because I don’t think he can afford to have someone who is potentially a liability in either sort of department.

“So the attacking side of things has always been there, some of his skill, his vision, his finishing, his passing, this is an incredible player. But football is not one of those sports where you have it all your way all the time, and going to places like Anfield, you do need people who are going to be defensively good as well because otherwise, Liverpool will take advantage of you.

“I think, for him, the fact that he can play on the right, play off the left, play centrally, the drive he has now after having the most successful season that probably anyone will ever have in their careers, I think it says a lot about his ability.

“And also it’s easy to forget how young he is and how young he started, but he’s a tremendous talent and he’s only getting better and better. And because he’s so connected to the team and because this is the club he supports, he’s driven to always push for more and I’m a big fan of that completely.”

In 27 Premier League appearances this season, Foden has scored 11 goals and provided seven assists.

In addition to that, the England international has made more passes into the penalty area (49) than any other player in the City squad, as well as racking up the second-highest total of shot-creating actions (110) and goal-creating actions (14).

His overall performances have earned the 23-year-old an impressive season rating of 7.45/10 from WhoScored, making him the second-highest-rated player at the Manchester club.

With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why Onuoha has been so complimentary of Foden and his efforts this season.
