Pundit Owen Hargreaves has said that Manchester City have made a top signing with the recent acquisition of Jeremy Doku.
Earlier this week, the Manchester club announced the signing of the winger from Rennes on a five-year deal after it was reported that they had agreed a £55m fee with the French club.
Now though, with the 21-year-old in with a chance of making his debut for the Citizens in tomorrow’s Premier League clash against Sheffield United, one pundit and former City player has shed some light on what the supporters can expect to see from the Belgian.
Hargreaves hails ‘amazing’ Doku
Speaking in a recent edition of Team Talks by Premier League Productions via Optus Sport, Hargreaves had this to say about City’s latest signing.
He said: “He’s so fast and explosive, he’s amazing. Brilliant left foot, often plays on the right and comes inside.
“He gives them something different, a bit like Leroy Sane when they had that explosiveness off the left, he’ll play on the right but he’s a great addition.”
During his time at Rennes, the attacker scored 12 goals and delivered 10 assists in 92 appearances across all competitions.
In terms of the explosive pace that Hargreaves mentioned, Kylian Mbappe has also taken note of this side of Doku’s game as he said two years ago that he was impressed by the 21-year-old’s power and speed.
With that in mind, and the fact that Hargreaves likened Doku to Sane, who scored 39 goals and supplied 46 assists in 135 appearances for City during his time at the club, this should excite a lot of supporters about what they could be seeing from the new recruit on the pitch.
Looking ahead to tomorrow’s match at Bramall Lane, it’ll be interesting to see if the winger gets his debut and how he fares alongside his new teammates.
