Glenn Hoddle has said that Kevin De Bruyne is still the “best player” at Manchester City bar none.

The popular pundit made this claim on talkSPORT Breakfast (16/11/2023) about De Bruyne.

Interestingly, BBC pundit Garth Crooks had claimed that Rodri is “arguably” even more key to the Sky Blues than the Belgian playmaker.

But the £54 million (Guardian) man has been widely considered as the Premier League’s best player since signing for City in 2015.

Despite being 32 years of age, many would even consider him as the best midfielder in world football without question.

Now, Glenn Hoddle has said on talkSPORT Breakfast that despite the plethora of superstars at Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne is still the gold standard.

“They have lost De Bruyne. De Bruyne is their best player”, he claimed.

However, he added that the former Chelsea attacker’s absence due to injury is not being felt by the treble-winners.

“But suddenly, nobody is talking about De Bruyne. We’re not sitting here saying that they are missing De Bruyne.”

Kevin De Bruyne has the most unique skillset out of any player at the club

Glenn Hoddle is spot on and while one would argue that Kevin De Bruyne may not be as well-rounded as some of his other Manchester City teammates, his skillset is by far the most special.

The five-time Premier League winner has a case for being the finest creator in his generation.

De Bruyne’s chance creation has reached a level where it almost seems inevitable that he will set up Haaland and Co. in every game he starts and that too, in a multitude of ways.

The Sky Blues legend’s decisiveness in the final third, in terms of both his goals and assists as well as how he can knit together an attack and carry the ball from midfield is at a standard where he belongs amongst the greats of the game.

For these reasons, Kevin De Bruyne still remains the top dog at Manchester City.
