Glenn Murray has suggested that Pep Guardiola could be considered the best manager of all time if Manchester City win the treble.

The 52-year-old recently picked up his fifth Premier League title and could still end the season with the FA Cup and his first Champions League trophy with the Citizens to his name.

This has since led to one pundit and former Premier League player having his say on the Spaniard and where he could rank in terms of being the best manager England has seen.

Speaking on Football Focus, Murray said this when asked if the City boss can be considered to be as good a manager as Sir Alex Ferguson.

He said: “Yes, I think we do, especially taking into consideration what he’s done elsewhere as well.

“He completed Spain, he completed Germany and it was a question if he could come to England and do the same. And I think people questioned him, our league is more competitive and he’s just came and he’s completely dominated.

“Two games and I think he will be ranked up there with Sir Alex Ferguson. It’s two games I can really see them winning.

“From a football fan’s perspective, I’m just glad he’s here in this league and we can enjoy him week in, week out.”

Having taken charge of 410 games with City, Guardiola has seen his side win 303 of them, drawing 49 and losing 58 across all competitions.

In addition to the five league titles he has won, the Spaniard has also seen City win one FA Cup, four Carabao Cups and two Charity Shields.

With that in mind, it’s clear why Murray has been full of praise for Guardiola and why he thinks he should be considered on the same level as Ferguson, who won a plethora of titles during his reign in charge of Manchester United.

Moving forward, if the City boss can secure the treble next month, mirroring what the Red Devils did in 1999, this would undoubtedly place him as one of the greatest managers that English football has ever had.
