Alan Shearer has said that Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has everything in his game to be the perfect centre-forward.

The Norwegian is in the midst of his second season at the Manchester club, following on from a rather successful debut campaign that saw him win the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in addition to breaking numerous goalscoring records along the way.

Having started this season off in a similarly impressive goalscoring fashion, the 23-year-old has found himself on the end of some significant praise from one former Premier League striker who certainly knows what it takes to be a top goalscorer.

Speaking in a recent edition of Match of the Day: Top 10, Shearer had this to say about Haaland and what he showed during his first season at City.

He said: “If you’re building the perfect centre-forward then he’s probably it. There isn’t anything that he’s not very good at.

“He’s got it all, he’s quick, he’s good in the air, good touch, link-up play, finishing is unbelievable and then 36 goals to break the record as well. And the treble, which is what they brought him in to do, wasn’t it? So he delivered on all fronts, goals and the trophies.”

City signed the centre-forward during the 2022 summer transfer window from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £51m.

Since then, the striker has found the back of the net 69 times in 71 appearances across all competitions.

Looking back to the previous Premier League campaign, only Harry Kane (54) had more shots on target than Haaland (53), which shows how much of a threat he was for opposition goalkeepers to deal with on a weekly basis.

At this stage of the current season, the City star has racked up more shots at goal (42) and shots on target (22) than any other player in the division.

His overall performances have earned Haaland a strong season rating of 7.67/10 from WhoScored, making him the highest-rated player in the league, which acts as further proof of Shearer’s point about the City star being a perfect centre-forward.
