Sven-Goran Eriksson has shared what it was like to work alongside Former Manchester City player Elano.

The 75-year-old spent one year in charge of the Citizens between 2007 and 2008, overlooking 45 games during that period.

Out of the 32 players he used during his time at the Manchester club, the former England manager has now shared his thoughts on one of them in particular.

Speaking in a recent edition of Callum’s Football Broadcast, Eriksson had this to say when asked about what Elano was like on and off the pitch during their time together at City.

He said: “Easy. Brazilian, a happy man always and a great footballer. He played for the national team of course and you could use him as a second striker, as a winger, as a central-midfielder. A great guy.”

Eriksson signed the Brazilian for City back in August 2007 from Shakhtar Donetsk for £8m following the arrivals of Javi Garrido and Vedran Corluka.

Across the 2007/08 season, Elano featured in 38 games across all competitions for the Citizens, scoring 10 goals and delivering eight assists along the way.

One of those goals came from a stunning free-kick the midfielder fired in against Newcastle United, which he recreated in a video on the club’s website back in September.

This goal eventually led to the 42-year-old being City’s top scorer in the Premier League for that season.

As the former City manager mentioned, Elano showed his versatility throughout his debut campaign by featuring in the positions that Eriksson mentioned.

Back in 2018, the Brazilian said that he sees the Manchester side as being very special to him and holds a deep sense of gratitude for what they gave him during his two-year stint in England.

Now that Eriksson has revealed how much of a pleasure it was for him to work alongside the Brazilian, this further highlights how much of a great signing he was for the Manchester club.
