Pundit Craig Burley has praised Manchester City full-back Kyle Walker for his performances this season.

After almost joining Bayern Munich during the previous summer transfer window, the Englishman made a U-turn by staying at the Manchester club and even signing a contract extension with them.

With the 33-year-old now in the midst of his seventh season with the Citizens, one pundit has picked up on what the veteran has been doing on the pitch.

Speaking in a recent video on the ESPN FC YouTube channel, Burley had this to say about Walker and his performances for the Manchester club this season.

He said: “Every time I see City play, to me he’s almost always their best defender. Even at his age, the pace, the power, the composure and the experience he has in all scenarios is just great to see.”

City paid £50m to sign the Englishman from Tottenham Hotspur back in 2017 and have since seen the right-back make 280 appearances for the club across all competitions, winning numerous titles along the way including five Premier League trophies.

This season has seen the defender play every minute of Premier League action, donning the captain’s armband for all but one of their 18 league games.

His performances across those 18 league matches have earned the 33-year-old an overall season rating of 7.76/10 from WhoScored, making him the highest-rated defender in the City squad.

Given how prominent Walker has been in the team throughout this campaign, it’s clear that he is a very important figure for Pep Guardiola and has been showing how important he is on the pitch.

With all of that taken into account, it’s clear that it was a big positive for the club that the Englishman didn’t end up leaving in the summer and decided to stay instead.
