Pep Guardiola has reportedly already spoken to Manchester City transfer target, Josko Gvardiol, over a potential move to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
Earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano claimed that negotiations are progressing well for City in terms of agreeing personal terms with the RB Leipzig defender.
With the two clubs needing to discuss a potential transfer fee, some extra behind-the-scenes details have come to light regarding the efforts City have gone to to try and lure the Croatian to the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola speaks with Gvardiol
In a recent Twitter post, The Secret Scout said this on the matter.
They said: “Understand Pep Guardiola has spoken with Gvardiol and his team. He has been shown the project and how Pep will use him going forward & develop his game over the next few years. Man City want him at the start of pre season.”
The City boss will have had a good look at the Croatian during the club’s two Champions League knockout clashes against Leipzig earlier in the season.
The first leg in Germany ended up being a fairly successful one for Gvardiol as he scored the equaliser that led to the game ending in a 1-1 draw.
The second leg, however, will have been one for him and everyone else at the club to forget, as they were demolished 7-0 at the Etihad, with Erling Haaland scoring five times.
Despite that, the 21-year-old still managed to show how much of a capable defender he is in the Bundesliga by ending the campaign with the second-highest total of clearances (76) and aerial duels won (43) in the Leipzig squad, as well as the third-highest for recoveries (167) and interceptions (34).
With that in mind, it’s easy to see why City are looking to add Gvardiol to their squad for next season.
Also, with Guardiola apparently getting in contact with the centre-back, this further highlights how eager the Spaniard is about having the Leipzig star in his ranks.
