Joao Cancelo reportedly has no way of getting back into the frame at Manchester City ahead of their upcoming season.
Back in January, having fallen out of favour with Pep Guardiola, with a behind-the-scenes bust-up being reported, the full-back left the Manchester club to join Bayern Munich on loan until the end of the season.
Having then missed out on winning the treble with the Citizens, the right-back is now back with the European champions in their pre-season tour of Asia.
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, some behind-the-scenes information has come to light about the Portuguese international’s current situation and what the future could look like for him.
Cancelo not in the frame for Guardiola next season
According to a recent report from the Daily Mirror, there is apparently no chance that Cancelo will be a part of City’s squad for next season following his falling out with Guardiola midway through the previous campaign.
During his time with Bayern, where he ultimately ended up helping them win the Bundesliga, the defender started 15 of the 21 games he appeared in across all competitions, chipping in with one goal and six assists.
Back in June, Guardiola claimed that the Citizens were so desperate to get rid of the 29-year-old back in the January window, they would have been willing to sell him on a permanent basis to their rivals Manchester United had the opportunity arose.
With that in mind, it’s easy to see why it has now been reported that there is no pathway for Cancelo to become part of the City team again.
Moving forward, we feel that the best next step for all parties would be for the player to leave the treble winners on a permanent basis this summer, which leaves City with the mission of finding a club that are willing to pay what they feel is suitable for the player.
