It has been revealed that Pep Guardiola is a huge admirer of Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.

This comes from journalist Sam Lee on Twitter, who made this revelation during City’s 2-1 defeat against Atletico Madrid.

It does not come as much of a surprise that Pep Guardiola is a fan of Stefan Ortega, who has been a smash success ever since joining Manchester City.

Sam Lee says Pep Guardiola adores Manchester City No.2 Stefan Ortega

Branded as ‘incredible’ by the Catalan boss before (via the club’s official website), the 30-year-old was his archetypal goalkeeper every time his services were called upon.

It seems like the treble-winner’s impact off-the-pitch was also an extremely positive one, with Ilkay Gundogan saying that his fellow countryman’s presence made last season even more ‘special’ for him.

Now, Sam Lee has said that Pep Guardiola rates Stefan Ortega very highly and admires him hugely, saying, “Great save from Ortega there. Guardiola really really likes him. Aaaaand it’s kicking off a bit on the pitch as City prepare to bring on eight subs: Cancelo, Kovacic, Lewis, Phillips, Bobb, McAtee, Gomez, Akanji.”

The German is the perfect goalkeeper for a Pep Guardiola team

It’s fair to say that Stefan Ortega is rather unlucky that Ederson is as suited as he is to a Pep Guardiola side as if not for him, he could have perhaps have become Manchester city’s undisputed No.1.

After all, not only is the ex-Arminia Bielefeld talisman brilliant on the ball but his shotstopping could be well be on the Brazilian’s level.

As a result, Guardiola would especially be fond of the reliable goalkeeper, especially considering how much of an upgrade he has been on Steffen since his arrival in the summer of 2022.

To have the luxury of resting Ederson to start Stefan Ortega would be one that any manager would dream of having.
