Pep Guardiola should take Sergio Gomez out of the starting XI for Manchester City’s Premier League clash against Wolves this afternoon.
After seeing his side get knocked out of the Carabao Cup in midweek thanks to a 1-0 defeat away at Newcastle United, the Citizens are back in Premier League action today with another away trip.
In terms of the XI that Guardiola will be putting together to take on Gary O’Neil’s side at Molineux, one player that started against Newcastle that we feel should not be in the starting XI today is Gomez.
Guardiola should ditch Gomez from today’s starting XI

Looking back to the midweek defeat, the Spaniard completed the full 90 minutes whilst featuring in the right-wing position for the majority of the game but failed to have any sort of attacking presence.
For example, the 23-year-old failed to have even one attempt at goal and could only provide one key pass throughout the match.
In addition to that, he ended up losing possession 17 times in total, more times than any other City player that started the game.

This was backed up by Goal, who said this about the Spaniard’s midweek efforts after giving him a match rating of 5/10 in their player ratings report.
They said Gomez was “too ponderous in possession and hardly got forward into good positions.”
With that in mind, and the fact that Guardiola has the likes of Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku to call upon to start today’s match at Molineux, we feel that Gomez should be put back on the bench after struggling to prove himself as an effective attacking option last time out.
