Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola must select Matheus Nunes in his starting XI for this weekend’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest.
The Citizens are back in action this weekend following their 3-1 win over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Tuesday.
In regards to Saturday’s clash against Forest, one player that we feel should be in Guardiola’s starting XI is Nunes.
Nunes must start against Forest
After making his debut off the bench for City in their previous league outing against West Ham United, the midfielder made his first start in midweek.
During that game, the midfielder ended up playing the full 90 minutes of the game, having 111 touches of the ball in total and accurately completing 89 of the 92 passes he made, leaving him with an overall passing accuracy percentage of 97%, the highest in the team.
Having also made six key passes in total, the 25-year-old earned himself an overall match rating of 8.7/10 from SofaScore, making him the second-highest rated City player on the day.
This backs up what Goncalo Santos had to say about the Portuguese international previously by saying that he is “unbelievable” with the ball at his feet.
With that in mind and the fact that City will be without Mateo Kovacic and Bernardo Silva for Saturday’s clash, we feel that Nunes did more than enough in midweek to warrant a place in the starting XI once again.
Moving forward, if Guardiola does pick Nunes to start against Steve Cooper’s side tomorrow and the midfielder is able to deliver a similar sort of performance to the one he had on Tuesday, he’ll give his side a great chance of picking up another victory and keep their 100% win record going.
