Guardiola must unleash ‘exceptional’ Man City star this weekend, he could terrify Spurs – opinion

Pep Guardiola must include Julian Alvarez in his starting XI for Manchester City’s Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Citizens are back in action at the Etihad Stadium once again this weekend as they prepare to take on Spurs for their latest Premier League match.

City head into this game off the back of a 3-2 win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League, which saw them overcome a 2-0 deficit to secure a victory and top the group.

In terms of what Guardiola’s starting XI could look like for Sunday’s match, one figure who didn’t start in midweek that we feel should be unleashed from the get go on this occasion is Alvarez.

Against Leipzig, the 23-year-old replaced Kyle Walker in the 54th minute of the game, before then going on to score City’s winning goal.

In fact, it was his previous performances in the Champions League earlier this season that led to him being described as an “exceptional” player by Owen Hargreaves.

In terms of his domestic efforts this season, Alvarez has started all 13 of City’s Premier League matches, making it likely that he’ll be in the XI once again this weekend.

Across those 13 games, the striker has scored four goals and provided five assists, showing how dangerous he can be in front of goal.

In addition to that, the World Cup winner has made more key passes (30) and goal-creating actions (8) in the league than any other player in the City squad.

Bearing in mind how Spurs have lost their three previous league games and conceded eight goals in doing so, this could be an opportunity for Alvarez to terrify Ange Postecoglou’s side and add some more goals and assists to his tally for the campaign.

With all of that in mind, we feel that Guardiola should carry on with his plan of keeping Alvarez in the Premier League starting XI for this weekend’s big game against Spurs.
