Erling Haaland’s representative, Rafaela Pimenta has confirmed that her client has a release clause in his contract at Manchester City.
Haaland’s much-discussed release clause
This ties in with The Athletic journalist Pol Ballus’ revelation that the 22-year-old indeed has a £175 million release clause in his contract, which is set to get activated in 2024.
Furthermore, the value of the release clause will decrease in value year after year until his deal at the club expires in 2027.
It has also been mentioned that only clubs outside England can activate the Norwegian international’s release clause to complete a potential transfer.
Ever since the former Borussia Dortmund striker’s arrival at the Etihad Stadium, his release clause has been a constant topic of conversation.
Especially after Alfie Haaland’s infamous quotes in the documentary, “Haaland: The Big Decision”, which was centred around the youngster deciding which club to join in the summer of 2022.
“I think Erling [Haaland] wants to prove his abilities in all leagues. Then he can stay there [Manchester City] for 3 or 4 years at the most.”
“He [Erling Haaland] could be, for example, two-and-a-half years in Germany, two-and-a-half years in England and then in Spain, Italy, France, right?”
Pimenta on Haaland’s release clause
Speaking to MARCA, Rafaela Pimenta said, “You have to do it and it is very interesting. If we don’t say anything, surely something is interpreted and if we say something too.”
“As a lawyer, I know that I can’t say anything, but I also know that if I don’t say it, they will say it.”
Only time will tell whether Erling Haaland leaves Manchester City to go elsewhere if his release clause is activated, or decides to commit his long-term future to the club his father once player for.
