Pep Guardiola has shared an injury update on Jack Grealish ahead of Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League match against Manchester United.

After recovering from an injury he picked up during the Citizens’ Champions League round of 16 clash against Copenhagen, the winger returned to action in Tuesday’s 6-2 win over Luton Town in the FA Cup.

Unfortunately, the 28-year-old was forced off the field once again in the first half of the match at Kenilworth Road.

Now though, with another big match on the horizon, some details have emerged regarding Grealish’s latest injury setback.

Speaking in his latest press conference ahead of Sunday’s Manchester Derby, Guardiola had this to say about Grealish and his latest injury blow including if he thinks the winger will be fit enough to feature in England’s upcoming games and if he has the mentality to get back to full fitness.

He said: “He will not be fit for this weekend. When he will come back I don’t know. No. I need to speak with Gareth [Southgate], I think he will not be fit. He has to recover well. He has had a setback, he has to recover well so we can use him as much as possible. Yes, he doesn’t have an alternative. Setbacks in life are always there, it’s how you overcome them.”

Having only been able to play 38 minutes in midweek, this suggests to us that if he has been affected with the same issue he suffered in Copenhagen, it wasn’t sufficiently dealt with by the club and their medical staff.

Now that Grealish is set for another spell on the sidelines, the medical and coaching staff will have to make sure the player only returns to action when he is 100% fit and not likely to cause any more damage to himself.
