Rico Lewis has been speaking about Pep Guardiola ahead of the UEFA Champions League clash between Manchester City and BSC Young Boys.

The Manchester City No.82 spoke to TNT Sports about the Spaniard.

So, what did Rico Lewis say about Pep Guardiola? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the £25,000-a-week man has enjoyed an impressive start to the 2023/24 campaign.

Lewis has already made five starts in all competitions for Manchester City this season, including the 1-0 defeat against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, which was a huge show of faith from Guardiola.

Now, the 18-year-old has admitted that he finds it “hard to believe” just how much the 52-year-old trusts and respects him already.

Lewis said: “It’s really good (to have Guardiola’s trust) but it’s another thing that’s surreal.

“You don’t think that a manager of that standard or level will ever even recognise you when you’re young, and for him to show so much respect in me is unbelievable. It’s just hard to believe still now.”

Guardiola actually said that Lewis is one of the most talented footballers he has ever coached – which was a huge statement given the calibre of player he has worked with before at Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Rico Lewis can do special things at Manchester City

We truly believe people aren’t making enough of Lewis so far this season.

It really isn’t normal for a teenager to walk into a treble winning side and immediately look like one of the best performers, but that’s exactly what the England Under-21 international has done.

Now, with a coach as effective as Guardiola tutoring him, Lewis really can become whatever he wants at the Etihad Stadium – in truth, he could even make Gareth Southgate’s UEFA EURO 2024 squad at this rate.

Make no mistake about it, Manchester City have a genuine diamond in the Bury-born wonderkid.
