David Ornstein has said that he expects Kalvin Phillips to leave Manchester City this month.
With the winter transfer window now being open for almost two weeks, players have made moves in and out of numerous top-flight clubs on loans and permanent deals.
Now though, one big-name journalist has shared his thoughts on one particular deal that he thinks will take place this month.
Ornstein backs Phillips to leave City this month

Speaking in a recent edition of Transfer Gossip Daily, Ornstein had this to say when asked what move he thinks will happen before the January transfer window closes.
He said: “It’s one that has been talked about a lot, but Kalvin Phillips has to move from Man City. He’s not really a part of their plans, he needs to be playing for the Euros and something has to give.
“I’m only going to say that one, Kalvin Phillips on the move, because that is really the only one I think has to happen, whereas the rest could fade away.”
The midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium in recent months due to his lack of game time in Pep Guardiola’s side, with the likes of Newcastle United and Juventus being mentioned as potential suitors.
This season has seen Phillips, who City paid £45m to sign from Leeds United back in 2022, feature in just 10 games, two of which he started.
With Guardiola also saying that he struggles to visualise the Englishman in his ideal City side, this makes it easy to see why the 28-year-old hasn’t been playing regularly.
Taking all of that into account, and the fact that Phillips himself has said that he could look to leave the club in an effort to find regular game time and help secure his place in England’s squad for the upcoming European Championships, it’s understandable why Ornstein has backed this move to take place before the end of the month.
