Jeremy Doku has shared that former Manchester City player Samir Nasri had previously recommended him to join the club.
The winger recently joined the Manchester club in a £55m deal from Rennes, who he spent just under three years with after making a move from his boyhood club Anderlecht in 2020.
Having now been officially announced as a City player, the 21-year-old has shed some light on one particular relationship and conversation he had with a former teammate, who knows exactly what it’s like to play for the Manchester club and win titles with them.
Doku says Nasri told him to join City

Speaking in a recent video on City’s YouTube channel, Doku had this to say about Nasri and the time they had together at Anderlecht.
He said: “Good friend, I really like his personality. I had a good relationship with him.
“He [taught] me also a lot of things, he always said to me City is a good team for you, so I think I listened.
“Top player, when I played with him, he didn’t play a lot because he was injured but when he trained and even like with Vincent [Kompany], when he was at the end of his career, you could still see, Samir Nasri, why he was at the top level.
“I really liked him and he saw me as his little brother. When I was with him on the pitch, he told me to stay wide and the ball will come to you, or when you’re in this zone do the dribble, when you’re in this zone play simple or stuff like that, go in behind.
“Also the most important he said to me like nowadays it’s not like before so now you need to have your statistics, so that’s important, your goals, assists.”

During his time at the Belgian club before joining Rennes, Doku played in six matches alongside Nasri and had eight under Kompany’s management, which shows the previous City connections he had before ultimately joining the club.
With the Frenchman making 176 appearances for the Citizens during his time at the club where he scored 27 goals, delivered 40 assists and won two Premier League titles, it’s safe to say that he knows what it takes to be successful there and why his knowledge and advice will be helpful for Doku.
Moving forward, if City’s latest summer signing can go on to be as successful as Nasri was at the club, he’ll be seen as a top signing for them.
