Nedum Onuoha has revealed what Rodri said to him straight after Manchester City’s Champions League final win over Inter Milan.

The Spaniard scored the winning goal in City’s 1-0 win over the Italian side last weekend that not only landed the club their first Champions League title but also secured the treble.

Following this significant match, one pundit and former City player has shared some details regarding a conversation he had with the midfielder after the game.

Onuoha reveals post-match conversation with Rodri

Speaking in a recent video on the ESPN FC YouTube channel, Onuoha said this about his meeting with Rodri when asked what it was like being around the pitch straight after the final whistle in Istanbul.

He said: “He came over to me and said ‘how are you doing, legend?’ I was like ‘you’ve just scored the winner in a Champions League final and you want to call me a legend just because I scored that goal in 2010 against Chelsea!?’”

In addition to being the hero in Istanbul, Rodri was also named as UEFA’s Champions League Player of the Season, as well as being included, along with six of his City teammates, in their Team of the Season.

Across the full 90 minutes against Inter, the Spain international had 80 touches of the ball in total, successful completing 61 of the 66 passed he attempted, leaving only Nathan Ake (93%) with a higher passing accuracy percentage than him in the team.

Taking into account the significance of the game and the emotion that came after it, it’s nice to hear that the match-winner took the time to chat to Onuoha and call him a legend.

Interestingly, having scored the winner against Inter, Rodri may well have confirmed his own legendary status, especially in City’s history.
