Manchester City completed the treble on Saturday, and it’s been a long and winding road to get to this point.
City have played more games than any other English team this season, they’ve had to battle against the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Inter Milan to win these three trophies, and it’s taken a lot out of this squad.
After the trophy ceremony on Saturday, you could see a huge outpouring of emotions from a number of the City players, while Pep Guardiola himself couldn’t even keep his composure.
Indeed, as noted by Steve Howey on Manchester City’s official YouTube channel, Guardiola looked absolutely exhausted after the trophy ceremony on Saturday after a gruelling season.

Guardiola looked exhausted
Howey gave his verdict on Guardiola after completing the treble.
“Watching the pictures of Pep, he looks so happy but he looks exhausted. Every single emotion that you can think of is there. I’m sure tonight he’ll be having his glass of red wine and a cigar and he’ll be exhaling saying ‘I’ve done it.’ He didn’t need to, but he’ll have been putting pressure on himself as a perfectionist. He wanted to do it and do it the right way, and now that he has, as a manager he’s untouchable,” Howey said.
Can’t blame him
Can you really blame Guardiola for looking tired after reaching the promised land?
This has been a gruelling season. Arsenal’s title challenge meant that City couldn’t switch off one bit in the Premier League, while their FA Cup and Champions League wins have also taken a lot out of this team.
We all know how analytical and laser-focused Guardiola is when in pursuit of these major honours, and it’s not shocking to see that this season has taken a lot out of him.
If anyone has earned a long break this summer to recharge their batteries, it’s Guardiola.
