Phil Foden has revealed what Pep Guardiola said to the Manchester City players about this season after they won the Treble.
After lifting their fifth Premier League title in six years, the Citizens then followed that up by winning the FA Cup and their first Champions League.
With the Manchester club now on the hunt to regain those three trophies, one player in Guardiola’s ranks has shared some behind-the-scenes details on what the Spaniard told his players ahead of the current campaign.
Foden shares what Guardiola said after City’s Treble win
Speaking to Joe Cole in a recent interview shared on TNT Sports’ YouTube channel, Foden had this to say when asked what Guardiola said to the City players ahead of the season following their Treble win.
He said: “He said the challenge is to try and do it again. He said this season is going to be a little bit more difficult because we’ve won so much and he was just hoping that the motivation was the same within the players.
“I can see definitely that it’s still there, the hunger to win and want to do what we did last year again.”
Back in August, Guardiola said that it would be “impossible” for his side to win the Treble again this time around in addition to saying that he told his players to forget about it.
Now that Foden has revealed that the City boss pretty much told his players the exact opposite of what he told the media on that occasion, it seems likelier that the Spaniard would want to have his squad focused on winning their trophies again rather than consider it to be an impossible task.
Moving forward, with so many players in the City squad being aware of what it takes to win titles, this experience could be vital in their hunt to win another Treble and make even more history.
