Paulo Futre has now claimed that Manchester City rejected the chance to sign Joao Felix from Atlético Madrid this summer.
The 57-year-old made the revelation when speaking to Cadena Ser.

What’s the story?
Well, there were high hopes for the Portugal international after his £113m move to Atlético Madrid from Benfica in July 2019.
However, Felix struggled under Diego Simeone, scoring just 34 goals in 131 appearances before falling out with the Argentine.
After Chelsea decided against signing the Portuguese forward – despite his impressive loan spell at Stamford Bridge last season – Felix was offered around Europe to a number of sides, including Manchester City.
Futre said: “I verified what he told me because I have friends and it was true. Later he had spoken with Manchester City, I also checked and they didn’t want Joao either.
“What happened between Joao and Cholo (Simeone) happens every day in football. It’s something normal. What is not normal is that phenomenal coaches knew that Joao was a genius… but nobody wanted him. Neither Arteta, nor Guardiola, nor Klopp, any club. My question is why?”
Manchester City had no need for Joao Felix – but he has bounced back impressively
In our view, Pep Guardiola was right to decline the offer of Felix. The presence of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez at the Etihad Stadium means there is no room for the 23-year-old.
However, the Viseu-born forward has bounced back tremendously.
Felix eventually secured a loan move to Barcelona, where he has started the 2023/24 campaign in fine form.
The Barcelona No.14 has scored three goals in his first four games for Xavi’s side, while also providing two assists.
At this rate, it would be a major surprise if the Spanish giants decided not to turn his loan into a permanent deal next summer.
