Julian Alvarez has shared what Pablo Zabaleta told him about Manchester City when the striker first arrived at the club.

In the 2022 January transfer window, City landed a £14m deal to sign Alvarez from River Plate, although he didn’t join Pep Guardiola’s squad until the following summer.

With the attacker now in the middle of his second season at the Manchester club, he has shared some details on his early days at City and which former player spoke to him about what to expect with the Citizens.

Speaking in a recent interview with the club, Alvarez had this to say about his early days at City and what Zabaleta told him about his new side.

He said: “I remember that when I arrived, he [Zabaleta] travelled with us on the pre-season tour, I was able to share some Argentinian mate, have a bit of a chat with him.

“He told me a bit about what Manchester City is, about everything he had experienced. And I also noticed he is a great person who always wants the best for everyone around him.”

Across his nine years at City, Zabaleta made 333 appearances for the club across all competitions, chipping in with 12 goals and 27 assists.

This shows the significant experience that the former full-back has and why he’d have been a useful guide for Alvarez to listen to when he arrived at the club.

With the striker now settled at City, he has proved himself to be a key figure for Guardiola by scoring 15 goals and delivering 10 assists in 34 games across all competitions prior to today’s Premier League match against Chelsea.

Moving forward, if Alvarez can continue delivering goal contributions for the Blues on a regular basis, this will further highlight how much of a top signing he was for City to make and why they were right to add another Argentinian to their ranks.
