Micah Richards has revealed that former Manchester City teammate, Sergio Aguero, used to lie about his ability to speak English to get out of media duties.
The pair played in 46 games together at the Manchester club, racking up five joint goal participations between them, the first of which came during Aguero’s Premier League debut against Swansea City.
With both players now retired, the former right-back has shared some behind-the-scenes details on a particular lie that Aguero used to come out with during his time at City.
Richards reveals what Aguero used to lie about at City

Speaking in a recent edition of The Rest Is Football, Richards had this to say about Aguero when asked what he was like to work alongside given that his English skills were apparently not very strong.
He said: “This is the thing Gary, Aguero, he was lying. When they were asking him to do interviews he would say ‘I don’t speak English,’ he spoke brilliant English, knew exactly what to say, he knew exactly what the slang terms were, he knew all the terminologies.
“Of course, speaking with your friends and having an interview is two different things but he just played on that so much and he got away with it.
“Muggins like me, James Milner, Joleon Lescott, all the English lads had to do the media because Kun just said ‘I don’t speak no English.’”
City signed the Argentine international from Atletico Madrid during the 2011 summer transfer window in a deal worth £38m.
Spending 10 years at the Etihad Stadium, Aguero left the club in 2021 as a club legend and one of the greatest foreign players the Premier League has ever seen.
Having scored 260 goals in 390 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions, it seems unlikely that any City fan would be too dismayed by Aguero’s apparent deception in terms of being able to avoid talking to the media on a regular basis.
