‘He will shut your mouth’… Pep Guardiola says it is pointless to even criticise £51m Man City player

After Manchester City earned a hard-fought 1-0 win against Brentford, Pep Guardiola stressed that it is futile to criticise Erling Haaland.

All eyes were on Haaland after his wasteful display against Chelsea but he bounced back in style, scoring a crucial winner against the Bees to keep his side firmly in the Premier League title race.

As Kristoffer Ajer lost his footing at the back, the Manchester City striker was sent through on goal as he finished with aplomb to secure the all-important three points for the treble-winners.

Before the £51 million (Sky Sports) man’s strike, City had scuppered several gilt-edged chances, with Mark Flekken producing another goalkeeping performance for the ages.

It seemed like it was set to be one of those days for the Sky Blues yet again before the 23-year-old came to the rescue.

“When I was young, one friend of mine told me, never ever, as a person, I’m not a journalist and I would not be, so he told me, top scorer, strikers, they score a lot of goals, don’t criticise him because he will shut your mouth”, he said [via HaytersTV].

“So, that’s for sure. Sooner or later, always is there he came from two months, he had an incredibly tough week last week, he lost his grandmother and it’s not easy for a human being.”

Pep Guardiola has hit the nail on the head about his star man

Even some of the greatest strikers of all time had patches or seasons when they were not as clinical as their previous campaigns.

However, that does not change the quality they possess.

As Pep Guardiola stated, Erling Haaland has been the top goalscorer for Manchester City and in the Premier League this season and unsurprisingly, he delivered against Brentford.

Just like in his debut campaign at the Etihad Stadium, when the Norwegian stepped up big-time during the second half of the season to score important goals for City, which led them to winning their third Premier League title in a row under Guardiola.

Lastly and perhaps most importantly, with the personal loss that Haaland has suffered, the football fraternity must empathise with him as some things are certainly bigger than the beautiful game.
