Manchester City on seemingly on the verge of completing a deal for Argentine youngster Claudio Echeverri, after an official bid went in today from the club.
Over the last few days, the club have made big strides in their pursuit of River Plate starlet Echeverri, who is seen as one of the top young talents in South America.
Before Christmas, there was word of City’s intention to bid, and there was a claim this morning that the threat of Chelsea actually made City hurry up.
Journalist Gaston Edul claimed last night that a deal was quite close, and now the highest-profile journalist of them all has effectively confirmed the transfer…
Fabrizio Romano suggests Manchester City deal for Claudio Echeverru is now imminent

Earlier this afternoon, Fabrizio Romano took to X to share what he’s heard about the Echeverri to Manchester City deal.
It looks as though this move is now as good as done.
Writing on X he said: “Manchester City are closing in on Claudio Echeverri deal! City presented €25m (£21.7m) official bid today – value of the release clause.
“City and River, discussing best solution on payment terms. Deal will be done. Claudio will stay at River on loan. Here we go, coming soon.”
Romano has an excellent track record when it comes to applying his ‘Here we go’ catchphrase to transfer deals.
It is pretty much now a question of when City sign Echeverri, and not if.
Potentially, this could be another really exciting deal by the club, with Julian Alvarez having previously joined from the same club.
Obviously, Echeverri is a fair bit younger than Alvarez, but City officials will no doubt have great faith he can develop into a star.
City making moves
So this deal now looks all but done, and now the YouTubing of Echeverri for many a fan will commence.
The starlet, by many accounts, is a really exciting player with very high potential. He’s already had comparisons to Lionel Messi, and recently hit a hat-trick at the U17 World Cup for Argentina against Brazil.
The Echeverri deal is exciting to consider, because City normally do not miss when it comes to signing players hailing from Argentina.
Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta, Carlos Tevez and Nicolas Otamendi are some of just a few to have had really successful spells at the Etihad.
