West Ham United are set to miss out on Manchester City youngster Carlos Borges, with Dutch giants Ajax dramatically swooping in for the winger.
Everything had seemed on track for Borges to join the Hammers this summer.

Talkes between City and West Ham were said to have been at an advanced stage.
A £14 million transfer had been mooted (Independent).
But now, somewhat dramatically, the UEFA Europa Conference League champions are set to miss out on the Portuguese youth international.
Fabrizio Romano says Ajax are hijacking Carlos Borges’ move to West Ham
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has tweeted this evening to say that Dutch giants Ajax are now set to sign Borges from City.
He writes: “Ajax are set to hijack West Ham deal to sign Manchester City top talent Carlos Borges, here we go!
Verbal agreement in place, player will be in Amsterdam for medical tests soon as sources close to Ajax confirm. West Ham, close but Ajax hijacked the deal.”
It is currently unclear what the agreement between City and Ajax is.
Presumably, it will be more than the £14 million that West ham were reportedly proposing.
An interesting turn of events regarding Carlos Borges
This is a development that few will have seen coming.
Borges looked for all the world as though he was going to join West Ham.
But seemingly, Ajax have come in and done a number on them.

This will come as a big blow to West Ham, who are still yet to sign a player this summer.
It looks as though they will now have to look elsewhere for a new winger.
