Rico Lewis has said that Manchester City teammate Kyle Walker has always been a captain at heart.
Speaking in a press conference (via Manchester Evening News) ahead of City’s upcoming clash against Young Boys, the youngster was quizzed about whether there has been a change in the £50 million (Guardian) man since having donned the armband.
Rico Lewis believes Kyle Walker is playing with a more elevated sense of responsibility this season but also added that he has always led from the front, with or without the captaincy.

While the Sky Blues are yet to officially reveal their captain this campaign, it is either the 33-year-old, branded as ‘exceptional’ by Paul Lake or the injured Kevin De Bruyne.
However, the latter’s absence has meant that Walker has captained the treble-winners after looking like he was dead set to join Bayern Munich in the summer.
Now, Rico Lewis has given an insight into Kyle Walker as Manchester City’s captain and his qualities as a natural leader of men.
“He’s always been a captain with or without the armband. He’s taken more on his shoulders this year. He’s got so much passion, he fits the role. It’s a no-brainer he was going to be captain – him or Kevin”, he said.
“But I think most players in the team have that leadership anyone could be captain.”

Rico Lewis is spot on as Kyle Walker has always led by example with his unquestionable consistency since signing for Manchester City in 2017.
The Englishman is right up there with Kevin De Bruyne as the best player to have played for the club during the Pep Guardiola era.
While cameras may not always capture Walker being the most vocal on the pitch, his sustained brilliance at 33 years of age likely inspires his teammates to maintain high standards.
This is the true mark of a great captain.
