Rio Ferdinand raves about Cole Palmer as Manchester City beat Sevilla to win Super Cup
Branded as an ‘exceptional talent’ by Joleon Lescott, the youngster grabbed the headlines with a well-taken header to level the scores against the Spanish giants.
But throughout the game, Palmer’s ability to take on his mine, his chance creation and fearlessness to go for goal stood out.
Rio Ferdinand gave his insight after witnessing Cole Palmer live in the flesh after Manchester City narrowly defeated Sevilla on penalties.

“One thing he has no issues of is confidence. When he walked out here, obviously him and Joleon [Lescott] have got a good relationship, he walks out here, he has a laugh, he winks, he points at him when he shoots in the warm-up.”
Rio Ferdinand continued to praise Manchester City winger Cole Palmer for his confidence ahead of his side’s clash against Sevilla, saying, “I didn’t look at anyone in the warm-up, I was so focused on what I was doing but he has a relaxed approach to the game that only certain individuals can do that. He’s doing it at the top level at a club that’s competing for trophies.”
Cole Palmer has always been fearless
Rio Ferdinand seems to be bang on about his observation and even aside from the game against Sevilla, the treble-winner has always come across as he backs himself ever since breaking through at Manchester City.
Unlike most young players that tend to play within themselves, the Englishman has never been afraid to express himself and the directness in his approach is what has made his talent stand out even more.
It is perhaps this very mentality that could propel Palmer to the absolute top of the game, as he showcased against Sevilla that he has all the ability in the world to justify his confidence.
