Richard Dunne has praised Manchester City for their signing of Jeremy Doku.

The previous summer transfer window saw the Manchester club bring four new faces to the Etihad Stadium, with others making moves in the opposite direction.

Despite only being halfway through the campaign, one of the four summer arrivals has been praised for his efforts by one former City player.

Speaking in a livestream on the club’s YouTube channel prior to City’s Premier League match at Newcastle United, Dunne had this to say about Doku.

He said: “He’s brilliant, he’s so exciting to watch.

“There’s loads of players that have come into the Premier League and you watch clips on the on YouTube and you think oh he’s just a YouTube player, there’s not going to be much in it, but he’s involved all the way through the game.

“He takes players on, he’s not afraid of players with big reputations, he just goes at them, he runs past them and there’s always an end product with him which I think has been brilliant.

“He’s been a brilliant signing, he’s been something that City haven’t had, they’ve always had wingers that can get you down the line, cut back, keep the ball, keep possession, he doesn’t want to do that. He just wants to take people on and score goals and create opportunities.

“So far his City career has been fantastic.”

City signed the winger from Rennes in a deal worth £55m and have since gone on to see him make 20 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side prior to the Newcastle game.

Across those 20 appearances, the Belgian has scored five goals and delivered six assists, showcasing how much of a threat he can be in front of goal.

To further highlight how much of an attacking danger Doku has proved himself to be for the Citizens, the winger has made more progressive carries (90) and carries into the penalty area (61) than any other City player, as well as making more successful take-ons (44) than any of his teammates.

With all of that in mind, it’s clear why Dunne has been so impressed with Doku and why he has praised City for bringing him to the club over the summer.
