Barcelona manager Xavi has previously shared his praise for Manchester City transfer target Gabri Veiga.

Earlier today, it was reported by Fabrizio Romano that the Manchester club have joined Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to sign the Celta Vigo midfielder this summer.

With that in mind, one former midfielder, who knows what it takes to play under Pep Guardiola, has already had his say on the 21-year-old after getting a full view of what he’s capable of.

Speaking in his post-match press conference (via Barca Universal) after seeing Veiga score both goals in Celta’s 2-1 win over Barcelona in La Liga earlier this month, Xavi said this about the midfielder.

He said: “He’s one of the revelations. He’s a great footballer. Many of us like him, but we have to take our situation into account. He’s powerful, physical, with a goal, he has the facility to reach the shot. I congratulate him on the season.”

After making 64 appearances for Celta youth side, across which he scored 10 goals, the 21-year-old made his senior debut for the Spanish club back in September 2020.

Since then, the Spaniard has made 55 senior appearances for his current side across all competitions, during which he has found the net 11 times and provided four assists.

With all 11 of those goals coming in the previous La Liga campaign, the midfielder ended the season with the third-highest average of dribbles (1.1) and key passes per game (0.8) at the club, as well as having the second-highest average of shots per game 1.7).

This highlights how much of an attack-minded midfielder he is and what he’d be able to offer City should they end up signing him this summer.

Having also impressed Xavi and made himself the hero against Barcelon on the final day of the previous La Liga campaign, this further showcases what an exciting prospect City could have in their squad.
