Phil Foden is back in the headlines after another crucial contribution but he was quick to make sure a Manchester City teammate got praised, too.

City returned to Champions League action on Tuesday night with a comfortable 3-1 victory over FC Copenhagen.

The Parken Stadium has proven a tricky place to go for many teams but Pep Guardiola’s side eased to victory in the last 16 first leg.

Kevin De Bruyne was once again central as he slotted home the opener before teeing up Bernardo Silva and Foden for their goals.

Foden grabbed plenty of plaudits for his late strike, which has given City a two-goal advantage ahead of the return leg, but he moved to praise De Bruyne instead.

Phil Foden hails ‘important’ Kevin De Bruyne

Foden told TNT Sports after the match: “Me and Kevin have made that connection.

“It’s about building connections, it’s natural. It’s important to have Kev back because he’s so important for us.

“There’s no better player at passing the ball. He’s so important for us.

“It’s a special group. I enjoy every day. I look around and the hunger and determination is still there. It goes a long way.”

Kevin De Bruyne is taking the world by storm

The Copenhagen win was significant for more than the result as it was just the second time De Bruyne has completed 90 minutes this season.

It’s been a crying shame the brilliant Belgian has had to wait so long to have an impact on the campaign but he’s perhaps making an even bigger one now he’s back.

Not to say anyone ever doubted his sensational ability but sometimes you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.

De Bruyne has returned to the side and has immediately been on another level to any other player on the planet.

The £54m man has only been back for seven matches but already has 10 goal contributions and has helped City reach their relentless stride.

If he keeps this up he’ll be crowned player of the season despite being injured for half of it.
