Josko Gvardiol has shared his admiration for new Manchester City teammate Mateo Kovacic.

The Manchester club recently announced their signing of the defender from RB Leipzig, making him their second recruit of the summer transfer window after Kovacic, who they brought in from Chelsea on a four-year deal worth £30m.

Now, the 21-year-old has been speaking to the club’s media and shared his thoughts on his fellow countryman as they both look to take on their first season in Pep Guardiola’s side.

Speaking in his first interview with City on their YouTube channel, Gvardiol had this to say when asked what the supporters can expect to see from Kovacic.

He said: “First of all, as a person, he’s a really nice guy and he’s always here to help you.

“Also, on the pitch, he’s a fantastic player with amazing control and I would say maybe one of the fastest players on the ball and of course, the one who is going to give his best no matter if we are winning or losing he’s the one who’s going to give everything on the pitch.”

The centre-back has played in 18 games for Croatia with Kovacic, which shows how familiar he is with the 29-year-old and why he knows what he’s talking about in terms of what he’s like as a player and a person.

Having made 427 combined appearances for Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan, this highlights the top-level experience the midfielder has under his belt and will be able to offer City.

Now that Gvardiol has shared what he thinks are some of the midfielder’s strengths on the pitch, this will give City fans a better idea of what they can look forward to seeing from him once the season starts.

Moving forward, if the Croatian duo can go on to play prominent roles in team throughout the season and help the club win trophies, they’ll undoubtedly be seen as successful signings from the club.
