As Manchester City have been linked with a move for Jamal Musiala, he already has a huge admirer of his in Ilkay Gundogan.
The Barcelona maestro, who shares a dressing room with the Bayern Munich wonderkid at international level had his say on him a year ago (via the Bundesliga’s official website).
With Manchester City speculated with targeting Jamal Musiala as a potential long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan has already given him his blessing for the future.
Ilkay Gundogan raves about Manchester City-linked dribbler Jamal Musiala
Branded as a ‘generational talent’ by Foot The Ball, the youngster is up there with the likes of Pedri and Jude Bellingham as the most gifted U-21 player in the world.
In fact, it would not be a stretch to claim that the German international is already one of the best midfielders in Europe.
As Manchester City could perhaps try to sign Jamal Musiala in the future, it is worth revisiting the praise Ilkay Gundogan gave him.

“Musiala is the future of German football, alongside guys like [Karim] Adeyemi, [Nico] Schlotterbeck and David Raum. He’s unbelievably talented, and already very far on in his development for his age”, he said.
Manchester City legend Ilkay Gundogan continued to laud Jamal Musiala, saying, “There’s no questioning Jamal’s quality on the ball. His movement is superb and even though he’s pretty slight, he’s very strong in the tackle.”
“He already uses his body very intelligently. If he’s smart about it, he’ll make sure he uses it in a way that avoids him going shoulder to shoulder [with the opposition].”
Jamal Musiala would be one hell of a signing for Pep Guardiola’s side
It’s safe to say that Ilkay Gundogan knows a thing or two about being an elite midfielder and it is encouraging for Manchester City that he rates Jamal Musiala as highly as he does.
The 20-year-old is an outstanding dribbler, sublime technically, a powerful ball-carrier and capable of producing end product.
The area of Musiala’s game that can improve is his final ball.
However, under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage and with Kevin De Bruyne not getting any younger, this could prove to be a signing for the ages.
