Rio Ferdinand lavished Phil Foden after his magisterial display for Manchester City in their 1-0 win against Newcastle United.
Speaking on the FIVE YouTube channel, the popular pundit gave his two cents on the treble-winner’s showing in midfield against Eddie Howe’s side.
It’s safe to say Rio Ferdinand was awestruck by Manchester City attakcer Phil Foden, who stole the headlines against Newcastle United.
Rio Ferdinand raves about Phil Foden masterclass after Manchester City beat Newcastle
The 23-year-old looked like the rightful heir to Kevin De Bruyne, as he was unplayable on the half-turn, driving at defenders, creating a boatload of chances and setting up Julian Alvarez’s winner.
The Englishman’s exploits against the Magpies have earned rave reviews, with Chris Sutton going as far as to liken him to Paul Gascoigne.
Now, Rio Ferdinand has given Phil Foden his dues after Manchester City came out on top on Saturday night.

“For all the creativity that left the team, Foden comes in and does what he does. Unbelievable. Unreal”, he said, referring to not just De Bruyne’s injury but Gundogan and Mahrez’s exits.
“I want to see Phil Foden play. I love the way he plays. He’s talented. He’s unreal.”
Time for Phil Foden to become his side’s protagonist
Of course, the main man is perhaps Erling Haaland.
But Rio Ferdinand, much like many would be over the moon to see everything at Manchester City go through Phil Foden.
Especially in Kevin De Bruyne’s absence, the Stockport-born attacker has a chance to play in his natural position as a No.10 and run the show.
Throughout the years, it has been a challenge for the 23-year-old to do so, not only due to the Belgian but the presences of names like David Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva.
But as Foden seems to be handed the keys, he needs to drive this City team forward, at least until De Bruyne’s return.
