Chris Sutton has lavished praise upon Manchester City wideman Jeremy Doku.
Speaking to BBC 5 Radio Live’s The Monday Night Club, he was quizzed about his thoughts on the £55.5 million (Sky Sports) man’s incredible display against AFC Bournemouth, as he grabbed four assists and a goal.
Chris Sutton went on to laud Jeremy Doku and his start to life in a Manchester City shirt so far.
Chris Sutton raves about ‘clever’ Jeremy Doku
Branded as ‘unbelievable’ by Alan Shearer, the Belgian winger has become the talk of the town since his arrival from Rennes.
So much so that despite Jack Grealish coming off a terrific season in which he played a major role in City’s treble, many believe the 21-year-old could ensure that he merely becomes a bench player this campaign.
Chris Sutton is clearly a fan of Jeremy Doku, as he recounts having watched him live in the flesh and pinpointed what makes him such a different profile of wide player to the ex-Aston Villa talisman.

“Just in terms of him as a footballer, he’s totally different to [Jack] Grealish. I went to the Brighton game and [Roberto] De Zerbi hooked James Milner off. It was unkind to put James Milner as a right-back, I thought, I think he was coming back from injury against Doku and Doku just…he tore him to shreds. He was unplayable.”, he said.
Chris Sutton went on to explain what makes Jeremy Doku such an intelligent winger, saying, “All he thinks about is when he gets the ball is just driving at a defender and he’s very clever in which he does it because he wants to come inside on his right foot but he sets defenders up, he drives on the outside if they show him the outside.”
“It’s a great option for Pep [Guardiola].”
Jeremy Doku is a rare breed in today’s game
It is not a surprise why Jeremy Doku has his long list of admirers since joining Manchester City, including Chris Sutton.
In today’s day and age, wingers that consistently take on their defender have become a rarity.
Barring Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Kaoru Mitoma to name a few, not many widemen are as direct in their approach and have the footwork as well as the athleticism to leave full-backs for dead.
Jeremy Doku, however is a phenom, both as a dribbler and athletic profile, which makes him one of the most entertaining players in Europe and a rare breed in football today.
