Rodri stole all of the headlines in Saturday’s Champions League final as the midfielder netted the winning goal and won the Man of the Match award.
As you can imagine, the Spaniard was earning all sorts of plaudits after the game, and speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Michael Brown was hailing the midfielder for his improvement since joining City.
Brown noted that Rodri has gotten so much better on the ball since joining City, describing him as the best holding midfielder in the world these days.
Rodri’s improvement has been astounding
Brown hailed the former Atletico Madrid man.
“How nice for someone as unselfish as Rodri in that holding role. He has stepped up and just curled it in. He’s had a wonderful season. He’s the best holding midfielder in the world. At that point now his stock has grown even higher,” Brown said.
“His improvement, I don’t know what you think but on the ball, it’s incredible to where he was how he can take it in tight situations and areas. Sensational.”
Amazing
Brown described Rodri as the best holding midfielder in the world, and he’s not too far wide of the mark with that description.
Indeed, even before last night’s heroic showing, Rodri has been world-class this season and he’s probably the most consistent footballer on the planet.
Yes, there are others who may be more talented or more entertaining, but when it comes to a player you can count on every single week, Rodri is above anyone else in world football.
It’s incredibly fitting that Rodri was the one to deliver the Champions League trophy for Manchester City.
