‘His people were very keen’: Journalist says 25-year-old player’s representatives want him to join Man City

Manchester City journalist Sam Lee has claimed that Eberechi Eze’s representatives are keen to land the midfielder a move to the Etihad Stadium.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Citizens are interested in signing the midfielder from Crystal Palace, who are apparently wanting to pick up over £70m for.

Now, one journalist has shared some behind-the-scenes details regarding this particular transfer story.

Speaking on a recent edition of the Let Me Talk podcast, Lee had this to say about the interest in Eze.

He said: “Eze, himself, was aware of the interest but knew it would be difficult. I think his people were very keen to make it happen.

“City definitely considered it to the point of where, I don’t know if it’s already been triggered by [Kalvin] Phillips or [Cole] Palmer but it’s not going to be Eze unless something changes again, which I suppose you can’t rule out.”

Since joining the south London club from Queens Park Rangers back in the 2020 summer transfer window, the Englishman has made 95 appearances for Palace in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and delivering 11 assists along the way.

The previous Premier League campaign saw Eze rack up more shots at goal (70), shots on target (25), goal-creating actions (16) and successful take-ons (71) than any other player at the club.

This makes it easy to see why the Citizens have had their eyes on the player and why Palace want such a hefty transfer fee for him.

With all of that in mind, we feel that the Eagles star would be an exciting signing for City if he were to make a move to the Etihad before the summer transfer window closes.

However, with Lee suggesting that this proposed move isn’t likely to happen at the moment unless something changes further down the road, the Citizens could be better off looking elsewhere.
