A claim has been made that one of the reasons why Manchester City aim to sign Josko Gvardiol is to elevate Erling Haaland even further.

This comes from journalist Dean Jones on Ranks FC Ultras, after it was reported on Thursday that the RB Leipzig sensation was considered as the best defender in the world in his age group by City.

Now, it seems like a key factor behind the imminent arrival of Josko Gvardiol at Manchester City is to make Erling Haaland an even bigger threat.

How Manchester City privately believe Josko Gvardiol will make Erling Haaland even scarier

It was revealed on Wednesday that Leipzig and City had struck an agreement over a move involving the Croatian, with the final fee set to be £77.5 million with no add-ons included.

The treble-winners internally believe that the 21-year-old is the type of talent who could lead the club’s defence for the next decade.

Now, Dean Jones has claimed that Manchester City hold the faith that Erling Haaland could level up with the addition of Josko Gvardiol.

“One thing that was put to me about Gvardiol a couple of weeks ago and his style of play was that this will allow Haaland to flourish even more, so the thinking behind that is that he will get the ball quicker because Gvardiol spots things quicker and can push the ball into the midfield or even the frontline really quickly. It will mean Haaland gets the ball quicker in the box and clubs find it harder to stop City in the attack.”

Smart plan from the treble-winners on how to elevate Erling Haaland

With Manchester City target Josko Gvardiol being an extremely incisive passer, as he has shown on multiple occasions by setting up former teammate Christopher Nkunku and also capable of carrying the ball out of defence seamlessly, one can foresee how he could aid Erling Haaland.

Considering the Sky Blues tend to mostly face low blocks in the Premier League and even in Europe for the most part, the Norwegian superstar has often had to rely on his elite predatory instincts inside the box to bag goals.

But being one of the quickest players in the world and an absolute nightmare to stop in transition, Haaland would benefit loads if the ball was played early to him in behind opposition defences by his soon-to-be teammate.

Manchester City’s plan makes complete sense and could make them an even more frightening proposition next season.
