James Milner returned to the Etihad Stadium with Brighton earlier on Saturday for the Premier League clash against Manchester City.

The 37-year-old left Manchester City for Liverpool in 2015.

On the Yorkshireman’s previous returns to the Etihad Stadium, he has been booed by the Manchester City fans.

So, how did the Manchester City supporters receive James Milner on this occasion? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Manchester City fans were not too pleased to see the Brighton No.6 at the Etihad Stadium.

The Etihad Stadium faithful once again jeered Milner – with BBC Sport adding that he received “stick from the locals” while covering the game.

Milner found life tough up against Jeremy Doku, and also struggled to deal with Phil Foden on an afternoon where he certainly looked his age against Pep Guardiola’s side.

Those Manchester City fans who do dislike the Brighton man surely enjoyed seeing him torn apart by the attacking duo.

Why Manchester City fans boo James Milner

Milner made 203 appearances for Manchester City, winning two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and also the League Cup.

He is a model professional, so why does he receive stick from the Manchester City fans?

Well – as detailed on football365 – there is some discontent amongst the Manchester City fans after Milner passionately celebrated a goal for Liverpool against them, but never celebrated for the Citizens when scoring against Aston Villa, who he left in 2010.

Some Manchester City fans also did not like the way in which Milner rejected a number of offers to stay at the Etihad Stadium before joining Liverpool on a free transfer – again mentioned in football365’s excellent piece.

Whatever you may think of the Leeds-born midfielder, he certainly didn’t have the most enjoyable afternoon on Saturday as Manchester City coasted to a 2-0 win.
