How much Man City must pay to sign Ederson from Atalanta with midfielder ‘flattered’ by interest

Manchester City are potentially going to be looking at midfielders in January, with Atalanta’s Ederson seemingly on the club’s radar.

Pep Guardiola has seen his midfield become arguably the weakest area of the team in recent weeks, with City currently on a four-game losing streak.

Manchester City have conceded a lot of goals, and it’s been clear to see that the team is vulnerable on the transition.

Teams have been catching City on the counter, and the loss of Rodri is arguably proving quite costly.

In recent weeks there’s been speculation about City dipping into the transfer market for a new midfielder. It was claimed Rodri wants Manchester City to sign his Spain teammate Martin Zubimendi.

Atalanta midfielder Ederson is also thought to interest City, who have today discovered how much he’d cost to sign.

It’s been reported this evening by TEAMtalk that Manchester City will need to fork out £42 million if they are to sign Ederson.

City have supposedly made contact with the player’s agents to gauge his interest in a potential move to the Etihad Stadium.

Atalanta are said to be adamant over their £42 million asking price. There will be no negotiating, with the Italian club wanting to keep one of their best players ideally.

There is, though, word on how Ederson feels towards the interest from City.

Apparently, the South American is ‘flattered’ by interest from Pep Guardiola’s side. But that won’t count for anything if City don’t meet that asking price.

Currently, Atalanta are second in Serie A and if they are to have any hope of mounting a title challenge, then they’ll need to keep hold of Ederson and also Ademola Lookman, who’s another player attracting attention from various clubs.

Ederson would bring much-needed energy to Man City’s midfield

It remains to be seen if City attempt to sign a new midfielder in January, but fans would certainly like to see one.

The club tend not to do business in the January window, but circumstances are different this time around and City look to be too easy to play against.

Players have looked lethargic in the midfield areas and a bit of athleticism would not go amiss.

Ederson has been described as ‘a player with the energy to keep going back and forth all the time’ and someone who has ‘a lot of strength, a lot of physical ability’ by his former coach Tiago Nunes (via Sky Sports)

He’s capable of playing various midfield roles, but seemingly he is best going from box to box to make use of his impressive engine.

So if City did bring him in, he would likely not be playing the Rodri role on his own and potentially be placed in a double-pivot.
