How much did Manchester City pay for Julian Alvarez? Many have been wondering after the Argentine delivered another outstanding display.
Manchester City’s No.19 has taken his game to another level this season under Pep Guardiola, and he was in superb form again on Tuesday as he helped the Citizens fight back to record a 3-1 win over Red Star Belgrade, scoring twice to make it 2-1 before Rodri sealed the three points.
So, how much did Manchester City pay for Julian Alvarez? Let’s take a look…
How much Manchester City actually paid for Julian Alvarez
Well, this is genuinely hard to believe.
Manchester City paid just £14.1m to sign Alvarez from River Plate back in January 2022 – according to the BBC.
In this day and age, where the likes of Antony cost £86m and Moises Caicedo commands a £115m fee, that is simply incredible business from Manchester City.

Alvarez spent the second half of that 2021/22 campaign back on loan at River Plate, but took to life at the Etihad Stadium like a duck to water when he finally arrived for the 2022/23 season.
The South American helped Manchester City win a historic treble with 17 goals and five assists in 49 appearances.
Interestingly, Alvarez also became the first footballer in history to win the FIFA World Cup in the same season as securing a European treble, as shown on FIFA’s official website, earning him a nomination for The Best FIFA Men’s Player award.
So far this term, the Argentina international has looked like a man possessed, scoring four goals while also providing four assists in just eight appearances across all competitions.

In total, the Calchin-born forward has scored 21 goals, while also recording nine assists, in 57 appearances for Manchester City, meaning he has cost the Citizens just £470,000 per goal involvement.
Alvarez also appears to have bulked up significantly, making him more dangerous in English football up against physical opponents.
At the age of just 23, Manchester City have a seriously exciting talent on their hands – to say the least.
